Arrest made in first homicide of 2012

Police have made an arrest in Winnipeg’s first homicide of 2012.

On Monday emergency crews responded to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue after a report of an assault.

When they arrived, they located a 34-year-old woman suffering from severe upper body stab wounds. She was transported to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The victim has since been identified as Alche Fsehaye Kidnae.

The victim’s husband was in the suite at the time, and was taken into custody without incident.

32-year-old Teklu Tesfamichael Mebrahtu has been charged with second degree murder for his alleged involvement,

He has been detained.
